Introduction
The Alcatel-Lucent 1642 Edge Multiplexer, part of the Alcatel-Lucent Optical Multi-Service Node (OMSN) family, is an economical as well as an ideal space-saving multi-service system for customer premises and metropolitan access networks applications. This cost-effective system can be inserted directly into access rings or connected via unprotected or protected point-to-point links, for example to connect large and medium business customers to the central office. Relying on its full non-blocking matrix, the Alcatel-Lucent 1642 Edge Multiplexer addresses many network topologies. Many service interfaces are offered, including all standard PDH and SDH interfaces from 2 Mbps to 155 Mbps, as well as Ethernet and Fast Ethernet.
