MEN MIKRO 20A008-00
Introduction
The A9 and A10 are complete industrial single-board real-time workstations. Major components on the boards, such asthe powerful 32-bit CPU, all types of memory, serial interfaces, mass storage interfaces, Ethernet, CAN bus, and graphics are located on a double Eurocard, achieving significant cost savings. The A9 and A10 belong to a series of fully compatible, scalable products. They have a computer performance of between 22 and more than 100 MIPS. On-board memory of up to 48MB DRAM, 8MB Flash, 2MB SRAM and 2MB EPROM is more than enough even for the most complex real-time applications. The A9 and A10 permit use of a very flexible RISC CPU for handling all I/O on the board. This RISC CPU handles the Ethernet interface as well as all serial and parallel I/O without using the resources of the CISC CPU. All I/O is supported by DMA. The 32-bit graphics controller is optimized for industrial applications using flat panels. Every kind of LCD (including dual scan), EL or CRT display may be used with up to 1024 by 1280 pixels. On VGA resolution (640 by 480) it is possible to use a flat-panel display and a CRT monitor at the same time. Power management for the displays as well as generation of the programmable contrast voltage for LCD screens is included. In addition a touch-screen interface is on board for flat-panel applications. A resolution of up to 1000 by 1000 pixels can be implemented by means of an analog resistive touch sensor. For external mass storage devices, such as hard and floppy disks, an SCSI controller has been provided. The SCSI controller is also supported by DMA. For removable data storage media a PCMCIA slot is on board. Flash, SRAM or other memory cards may be used for loading application software, storing operational data etc. Programming of Flash cards is also supported. Four standardized M-Module slots on the board itself permit local extensions (such as networks, interfaces, process I/O etc.) – right from the start or later. Two VMEbus slots are necessary when using M-Modules. The power-saving design, together with EMC and ESD protection, provide the quality demanded of an industrial computer. The A9 and A10 workstations are ideal solutions for sophisticated cost-critical high-end real-time applications. Hardware configuration on the boards is made easy by the MENMON debugger, which is always included in two EPROMsas base software for all operating systems. This configuration should not be modified by the user. The program initializes the entire hardware and facilitates portation of operating systems, so that software developers do not need to be occupied too deeply with hardware. The A10 single-board computer is partly compatible with the MVME172 and MVME177 boards by Motorola.
